MARGARET WAGNER HOUSE

The MARGARET WAGNER HOUSE, a facility for the needy aged, opened in 1961 and was named after MARGARET WAGNER, former director of the BENJAMIN ROSE INSTITUTE. The Margaret Wagner House, built in 1960, is a nonprofit organization owned and run by the BRI, which donates a substantial portion of its $2.1 million indigent care fund to the facility. Located (until 1996) at 2373 Euclid Hts. Blvd. in CLEVELAND HTS., the home had 175 beds and usually ran at full occupancy. The organization serves both long- and short-term residents. In 1992 the institute decided against renovating Margaret Wagner House and began planning a new residential facility. Ground was broken for the new complex, located on 22 acres off of Fairhill Rd., in July 1995. The property, formerly the site of St. Ann's Hospital and KAISER-PERMANENTE, was already zoned for medical facilities. Completion and occupation of the 184-bed facility was planned for the fall of 1996. Jerry Weissfeld served as associate director in 1995.
