HILLCREST HOSPITAL

HILLCREST HOSPITAL, 6780 Mayfield Road in MAYFIELD HTS., opened in November 1968 as Hillcrest Hospital, the successor to DOCTORS' HOSPITAL. The 347-bed full service hospital, which has served the eastern SUBURBS and parts of Geauga County, was built on land donated by D. A. and Anthony Visconsi, the builders of Eastgate Shopping Center. By 1985 Hillcrest had merged with Strategic Health Systems, which changed its name to the MERIDIA HEALTH SYSTEM in 1987. The hospital expanded in 1994 to provide increased outpatient and diagnostic services and an on-campus medical office building. In 1997 the Meridia Health System became part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System. In 2006, the four hospitals (Meridia Euclid Hospital, Meridia Hillcrest Hospital, Meridia Huron Hospital, and Meridia South Pointe Hospital) were collectively known as the East Region Hospitals of the Cleveland Clinic Health System. At that time it was a 327-bed hospital offering laser and outpatient surgery, a maternity center, a neonatal intensive care unit, a pediatrics unit, and digestive health center, radiology services, a Level II trauma center, comprehensive cardiovascular services (open heart surgery, intensive care and coronary care units), and a cancer center. Hillcrest also provided a range of community services, classes, and wellness screenings.
