HRIDEL, ANNA C. (17 Nov. 1913 - 14 Sept. 1996) had a long career in broadcasting ethnic music on Cleveland RADIO. Born in Cleveland to Anna (Hejma) and Frank Jamek, she graduated from South High School and attended Cleveland College for three years. She began her Cleveland radio career in 1933, and over the years she sang on WGAR-FM, performed with the Louis Rich radio orchestra and recorded songs in both English and the Czech language for RCA Victor records. She had a daily radio program on WDOK-FM, and was later production manager for WHK-AM. Mrs. Hridel also helped to establish ethnic programming for WEWS (CHANNEL 5). Always proud of her Czech heritage, Mrs. Hridel was active with the WORKERS GYMNASTIC UNION (Delnicke Telecvicne Jednoty or DTJ), was a 66-year member of one of its units, the VOJAN SINGING SOCIETY, a long-time member of SOKOL GREATER CLEVELAND, and a trustee of the Czech Guild for the HOLY FAMILY CANCER HOME in PARMA. Mrs. Hridel helped establish chapter 3817 of the American Association of Retired Persons when she lived in MAPLE HEIGHTS, then became a member of the Chagrin Valley Women's Club after moving to CHAGRIN FALLS in 1990. She married Jerry Hridel in 1931 and had two sons, Jerry and Jan C. She is buried in Highland Park Cemetery.
